The Green Research Challenge is a great opportunity for researchers and lab users to learn more about UBC laboratory solid and hazardous waste programs, water and energy reduction and green purchasing options.
Beginning May 2, 2011, teams will collect points over a two-month period by participating in a series of green research activities that range from watching a climate change documentary to assessing energy use in a lab.
Form a team and sign up to compete against other UBC lab employees for your chance to win weekly prizes. The grand prize is a celebratory team lunch and a brand new bicycle for your lab.
The Green Research Challenge is an initiative of:
- Risk Management Services (Vancouver)
- Supply Management
- Sustainability Office
- Health, Safety and Environment (Okanagan)
Sponsored by Fisher Scientific
Register your team
Anyone who works in a lab and has a valid UBC CWL is invited to participate.
Get together with your colleagues and form a Green Research Challenge Team of four to 10 people. Email your team name and member details (full names, departments, CWL login names, email addresses, campus and whether you're staff or faculty) to environment@hse.ubc.ca.
Then, you will be emailed further instructions on how to set up your profile on the Challenge website.
Take the Challenge
Each week, you will be asked to complete two new activities. Check the Challenge website each week for details. While most of the activities are catered for individuals, your team can save time and work together by dividing some of the activity tasks/questions amongst your members.
Log your points
Complete both activities and enter your answers on the site. Remember, you must enter your answers each week on the site in order to be eligible for that week’s participation prize.
Your team will rack up points for each member that completes each activity online. The more activities each member does, the closer your team is to winning the grand prize in June.
