With around 150,000 trips to and from UBC each day, encouraging more sustainable modes of transportation is critical to meeting UBC’s sustainability goals. We’re working on reducing automobile trips by promoting public transit, walking, cycling and carpooling, and the results are promising. Since 1997, transit ridership to campus has more than quadrupled, and two thirds of trips are now made by these more sustainable modes of transport.

Our Transportation Plan describes the initiatives UBC is taking in the areas of walking, cycling, transit, driving, accessibility, circulation, service, and other transportation measures.
Public transit is the most popular way to get to campus. But UBC is one of the region’s busiest transit destinations with over 1,000 buses a day. This is causing long, slow commutes, and increased costs and lower productivity for...
UBC promotes cycling as a way to enjoy more fresh air, improved health, and a lower carbon footprint. We’re upgrading and expanding our cycling infrastructure, bikeshare programs, bike racks, showers, and other facilities across...

CARPOOLING

Just under 15% of people travel to and from UBC by carpool or vanpool. It’s a simple way for many of us to reduce our emissions while saving money, reducing congestion and conserving energy along the way.

ACCESSIBILITY SHUTTLE

A shuttle service for people with temporary or permanent conditions that impact mobility, who need assistance traveling to areas of campus that can otherwise only be accessed by foot.
