Sat, November 1, 2014 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM UBC Point Grey Campus. $75. Why do we have so much stuff? Why are our garages and storage lockers filled yet we still want more? Why do we have so much debt? Why do our children keep asking us for things and why do we buy it for them? How are the consequences of our purchases felt around the globe? These are the questions explored in this One Day @ UBC Course. By looking at what we wear, what we eat, and where we travel, examine questions of inequality and democracy, exclusion and belonging, diversity and imitation, cosmopolitanism and exploitation, and the global human and environmental impacts. The course is taught by Carrie Yodanis, PhD, an associate professor of Sociology at UBC engaged in the sociological study of consumption.
