As people and goods move around the world, so do other organisms, sometimes intentionally and sometimes by accident. These organisms can become established in new areas and may be out of balance with the local ecosystem. The Beaty Biodiversity Museum holds a record of changes in biodiversity, including these types of events. Artist, Eden Zinchik will present Containers of Curiosities, a series of model shipping containers with introduced insect specimens. Museum personnel will also present other types of organisms which were introduced to this area, some of which have become invasive, or detrimental to local biodiversity. On February 15th, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum will have admission by donation from 5pm, admission is always free for UBC students, staff, and faculty. Visit between 5-7pm to see and talk about these organisms and join a tour of invasive species in the collection at 7pm.
