While only 35% of North Americans can pass environmental literacy tests, only 10% can pass basic energy literacy tests.

Despite such low energy literacy rates, a recent poll demonstrated that 77% of Canadians either have “concern” or “extreme concern” for the impact of energy on society and the environment.

In response, this public panel organized by Future Energy Systems (UAlberta), UBC Sustainability, and Language & Literacy Education (UBC) offers a transdisciplinary discussion about the following question: How do we develop social literacy and action about energy transition?

The event is FREE to the public and light refreshments will be available.

WHEN: Febuary 1 | 3pm-5pm
WHERE: BC Hydro Theatre, Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (2260 West Mall)

The goal of this panel is to promote an open conversation between the panel and audience members about energy transition and action, and particularly how these socio-cultural elements of our energy futures might involve broad notions of literacy in institutional or public contexts. Panel members will offer perspectives from the areas of Law, Education, Geography, Environmental Sciences, and Community organizing.
