Wed, October 29, 2014 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM IRVING K. BARBER LEARNING CENTRE. Teaching and learning requires critical reflections happening in moments of our engagement within actual practice. How can we learn through our teaching and become practitioners who are also reflective learners? Dr. Susan Cox offers one such example through sharing her story of how certain teaching moments transformed her as a deep learner. Please join us in listening to Susan's story, and engage with your fellow community members in critical discussions concerning ethical awareness in teaching and learning.

Ethically Important Moments: A Story About Deep Learning

The academic world does not equip us well to make and learn from our mistakes. And yet our mistakes are often what lead us to deep learning, the kind of learning that engages both heart and mind and that stays with us for a lifetime. I will share a story of one such mistake and how it opened me to learning deeply about the value of such mistakes. I hope that we can then reflect on how teaching and learning can be enriched by creating a more supportive environment for such ethically important moments.
