Overview
Do you want to know the scientific foundations of seed and vegetative propagation methods? There are numerous techniques for multiplying plants. This class is designed for nursery and landscape professionals and students in the trade.
Audience
The goal of the workshop is to present best practices and practical skills for propagating plants. The right propagation skills can not only benefit your company by saving on purchases of plants but provide insight into how plants grow and why they succeed or fail in the landscape. This class will help to sort out techniques, tools, and equipment required for starting or multiplying plants.
Course Content
The class includes safety lectures and trainer-supervised hands-on propagation.
• Learn the range of practical techniques for propagating herbaceous and woody plants
• Learn about environmental considerations for propagating plants
• Learn practical techniques for seeding food plants and ornamentals
• Understand the physical basis for vegetative propagation
• Know the appropriate materials and equipment required for making cuttings
• Learn when to take cuttings
• Learn how to properly divide perennials
Important Notes: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to class so that we can start on time. Free Visitor Parking for 3 hours, provided you enter your license plate.
Cancellation Policies: A $15.00 processing fee per attendee is charged if cancellation notice is less than 7 days prior to your scheduled program. There is no fee for transferring the registration to another person. Cancellations can be made online or by contacting garden.htp@ubc.ca. In the event that a program is cancelled by UBC Botanical Garden, we will offer the option of transferring to another program or obtaining a full refund.
