This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders Pre-University Program for high school students ages 15-18, and is offered at UBC Vancouver. This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.
What is the connection between society and environmental change? Focus on improving your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills by studying the environment and climate change from a Canadian point of view.
Using presentations, debates, surveys and interviews with native English speakers, understand Canadian society and develop new language skills you need to communicate openly and confidently in an academic environment. Use your critical thinking skills and strategies to apply your knowledge of local environmental initiatives in different ways, and to explore opportunities to build sustainable communities.
Through this course, you can:
develop skills and strategies essential for academic success
improve academic vocabulary, pronunciation and fluency
enhance your confidence in English communications
discuss current issues related to the environment and climate change while developing your language ability
develop confidence in working in groups and one-on-one
enjoy a variety of class activities including group projects, lectures, discussions and presentations
participate in fun social activities with other UBC Future Global Leaders students from across Canada and around the world.
