Tue, April 26, 2016 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM UBC Point Grey Campus. Environmental and public health policies are often motivated by the ideal of promoting sustainability and precaution while nevertheless fostering economic and technological innovation. This raises a number of difficult questions. How should concepts the concepts sustainability and precaution be understood and what do they entail in concrete cases from an ethical or legal perspective? And to what extent are innovation, precaution, and sustainability potentially conflicting goals? In this workshop, four leading scholars present work relevant to these issues, and will engage with graduate student commentators and audience members.
The workshop is free and open to all. Breakfast, lunch, and coffee are provided.
