These unique, distinct experiences helped her to understand international-scale issues from a local perspective, and discover how small actions and awareness in a local community can initiate big changes. When drought hit Korea a few years ago, the cash in her hand was not enough to buy a green onion that sky-rocketed in price. It hit her hard, and urged her to research local food insecurity and initiate various projects (Climate Conference, composting, hydroponics etc) with people from diverse backgrounds. She’s majoring in Creative Writing, because she doesn’t know that arts—let alone fine arts—isn’t a real job (in fact, she doesn’t really know what that is, but she’s hoping one will drop into her lap post-grad). They’re interested in sustainability, but they often struggle with the pressure to be perfectly sustainable in a system built to consume. Catch her unabashedly sprinting to class to discuss writing, sustainability, or exchange pet photos.
