Thu, October 27, 2016 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM C. K. CHOI BUILDING FOR THE INSTITUTE OF ASIAN RESEARCH. The IES’s Managing Decarbonization Conference is an international conference designed to promote cohesive growth and innovation within the context of our environment and the economy. The conference is made possible by a grant of the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany that deals with climate policy issues. Even though climate change requires globally concerted action, it is a truism that some countries act as climate policy leaders in their own political domain. The German approach for a ‘Energiewende’ (Energy Turn) is widely seen as a far-reaching political project. The agreement from COP21 in Paris made Canada to an ambitious climate policy actor. It is this coincidence that makes an exchange between Canadian and German academics and climate politicians to a worthwhile enterprise. Although modest in comparison, our conference aims to unite Canadian and German academics and politicians within the field who will address various topics within the realm of the environment and the economy.
