At UBC, we work together as a community to meet our sustainability goals. Find out some of the ways that you can take part in supporting sustainability campaigns across campus.
let's choose to reuse
We're reducing the use of disposable coffee cups and plastic food ware by encouraging students, faculty and staff to choose reusable mugs, water bottles and cutlery instead.
SORT IT OUT
Plastics don’t belong in the food scraps bin. Please do your part and Sort It Out. At UBC, we separate most of our waste into four streams: food scraps, containers, paper and garbage.
COOL CAMPUS
We're asking the UBC community to be climate friendly by practicing less energy-intensive methods to preserve heat, stay comfortable and save energy while on campus this winter.
BE WATER WISE
Students living in UBC residences can be Water Wise by reducing their shower time to 5 minutes. This simple action can save precious water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
SHUT THE SASH
Fume hoods at UBC consume up to 10 per cent of campus energy due to the large volume of air that needs to be heated or cooled and moved through them. Help save energy and Shut the Sash.
CHILL UP CHALLENGE
Did you know that Ultra-Low Temperature (ULT) Freezers operating at -80°C use enough energy to power a single family home? Increase the temperature from -80°C to -70°C and reduce energy use by up to 42%.
SEASONAL SHUTDOWN
Every action counts! This holiday season help save energy as part of UBC’s Seasonal Shutdown, which lowers the temperature in buildings during the winter break to reduce energy use and emissions on campus.
