One of the many signs that global fisheries are unsustainable is the continued expansion of fisheries further offshore and into deeper waters.
On July 12, Dr. Jennifer Jacquet will discuss some of her recent research to understand fisheries on the high seas, and how it relates to the current negotiations at the United Nations regarding a legally binding instrument for the conservation and sustainable use of the high seas. She will also discuss some unsustainable trends in aquaculture and opportunities to be more normative in aquaculture research.
Jennifer Jacquet works on global cooperation dilemmas, including climate change, the internet wildlife trade, and overfishing. She worked with Daniel Pauly’s the Sea Around Us Project at the University of British Columbia for her PhD and joined New York University (NYU) in 2012, where she is now an Associate Professor.
