This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.
Pharmaceutical science merges scientific disciplines to design and develop drugs that treat disease and improve our quality of life. Understand how we design drugs, and how they are formulated to be delivered to and act on specific parts of our bodies.
Who should take this course?
This course is ideal if you’re interested in pharmaceutical sciences, health and medicine, or life sciences, or want to know how different types of medications are created and used as treatments to manage disease.
Your instructors
ANGELO LANZILOTTO, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on the discovery and expression of therapeutic antibodies, a promising treatment when classical drugs fail. He has a wide range of experience in synthetic chemistry and molecular biology, coupled with a keen interest in immunology.
TANYA SAXENA is a PhD Candidate in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She researches the design and testing of oral drug delivery systems, and improving the bioavailability of peptides. She has a master's degree in biomedical engineering, and works with radiopharmaceuticals and microfluidics.
SUMREEN JAVED is a PhD Candidate in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She researches the underlying mechanisms in breast cancer metastasis, especially the role of invadopodia, small finger-like projections that form in cancer cells and contribute to tumor metastasis.
