This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.
Why do we remember that embarrassing moment from elementary school but forget something we studied for a test? How do the words we use affect our experience of everyday life? How do two people have completely different perceptions of the world? Explore what we currently know about cognitive processes involved in learning and memory, consciousness, perception, decision-making and language. Learn how psychological principles are applicable to everyday life, including how to explain optical illusions, how to best learn and study, and why we make the choices we make.
Who should take this course?
This course is ideal if you’re interested in the social sciences, psychology or neuroscience, and want to develop critical thinking skills.
Your instructor
NATASHA PESTONJI-DIXON is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Psychology (cognitive science stream) at the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on the cognitive processes that underlie automatic decision-making. She is passionate about teaching and helping her students learn how to apply the material and skills they are learning to their daily lives.
