This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders Pre-University Program for high school students ages 15-18, and is offered at UBC Vancouver. This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.
Can we create super humans using genome editing technology? Should we look forward to having artificial humans in the near future? Can we finally find the drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease? Uncover the answers to these and other key scientific questions, study individual cells and the process of fabricating actual living tissues, and examine applications of bioengineering in everyday life.
Who should take this course?
This course is ideal if you’re interested in biomedical engineering, regenerative medicine, biology, genome science and technology, or if you’re interested in making bio-products that could save people’s lives.
Your instructor
ROZA V. GHAEMI is a PhD Candidate in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Her PhD research focuses on stem cells and tissue engineering of the human brain as a drug discovery platform. She teaches courses in bioengineering and chemical and biological engineering.
