This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders Pre-University Program for high school students ages 15-18, and is offered at UBC Vancouver. This program offers the option to stay in a UBC student residence during the program or commute daily.
Today, everyone is an author and publisher: we tweet, we post messages, pictures and videos to Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, we create vlogs and videos for TikTok and YouTube, we post to Reddit and Pinterest, we document our lives through webcomics, and we respond to media with comments and like buttons.
Hone your digital writing and critical thinking skills by researching different kinds of digital authorship, and developing content for various social media platforms. Explore the digital sphere’s creative, professional and personal potential through digital writing and social media.

This course is ideal if you’re interested in public relations, journalism, creative writing or marketing and communications.
Your instructor
ELIZABETH (Biz) NIJDAM, PhD, is an assistant professor in the UBC Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies. Prior to joining the faculty at UBC, Biz was a visiting assistant professor in German Studies and Film & Media Studies at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. From 2017 to 2018, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. Biz specializes in German comics and graphic novels, German art history and visual culture, and East German studies.
