Speaker: Dr. Martin Wolf, postdoctoral associate, Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy
The Environmental Performance Index (epi.yale.edu) provides a data-driven summary of environmental trends in 180 countries. We use global datasets to track 32 issues related to environmental health and ecosystem vitality, including climate change, air pollution, protected habitats, and fishing practices. Our analyses result in a global ranking that highlights leaders and laggards in environmental performance. In this talk, we will explore the issues covered by the 2020 Environmental Performance Index, specifically featuring our rankings on marine indicators like protected areas, fish stock status, and fishing practices. We will also highlight potential new metrics for the 2022 Environmental Performance Index, like marine pollution. These results highlight policies that countries of all stages of development can adopt to lessen their environmental impact.
